Top 10 anticipated films for the remainder of 2018

Now that we are past the halfway point of 2018 and with plenty of quality releases on the horizon we thought we’d put together a list of our most anticipated films for the second half of this year. With most of this year’s mega-blockbuster relegated for the first half of 2018, we have plenty of smaller and frankly more interesting upcoming releases. While Marvel has dominated the box office and certainly busted the myth of superhero fatigue we have some upcoming horror films which could become the most interesting genre of the year.

Here is our pick for the top 10 most anticipated films for the remainder of 2018!!!

The Predator

If we had any taste at all this entry would not be on this list and instead, we’d have Beautiful Boy, Wreck it Ralph 2 (I’m not calling it by its stupid name) or any other of the quality looking films coming later this year but I’ll be damned if not excited by the return of everyone’s favourite vagina faced, dreadlock alien.

In all honesty, I’ve enjoyed every predator film where he’s not facing off with a Xenomorph, on top of that one of my favourite directors/writers, Shane Black, is in the director’s chair. Hopefully Black can deliver a gruesome, funny and thrilling entry to the series

Mission Impossible: Fallout

Mission Impossible is a strange franchise. The first entry was a through and through spy thriller but this was abandoned for the sequel for a balls-to-the-wall crazy action film which is famously terrible. Mission Impossible 2 effectively killed the franchise until it was continued in 2006 with the brilliant Mission Impossible 3. Defying all logic of continuous film sequels, the series got better with each entry.

While Fallout promises the craziest stunts and biggest action sequences to date (at the detriment of Tom Cruise’s health) the biggest selling point is Henry Cavill’s infamous mustache.

Ginormous Shark + Jason Statham = HYPE!!!

Widows

I’m ashamed to admit I knew zilch about Widows till the trailer last month and I was blown away. Not only is the Oscar-winning director, Steve McQueen, in the director’s seat but the cast is stellar with names like Viola Davis, Colin Farrell, and Daniel Kaluuya.

Widows looks to be a high production heist film with a talented female cast front and centre with a gritty vibe.

Suspiria

Although he fell short at the Oscar’s this year (undeservedly so) with the critically loved, Call Me By Your Name, Luca Guadagnino is tackling one of my favourite horror films of all time. Suspiria is a landmark film that infuses terror with a phenomenal colour palette and cracking prog rock soundtrack.

Although the trailer was missing much of these elements, it looks unsettling and replaces its colour palette with a brutalist communist setting and a brooding synth soundtrack. This could be the sleeper hit of the year.

Bad Times at El Royale

Drew Goddard is making another movie and so far it doesn’t look too far off the style of Cabin in the Woods which is great news considering it was one of the best genre films of the last decade.

Not much is known from the stylish trailer but it looks to be dark, funny and dripping in style. Also more shirtless Chris Hemsworth is always a good thing.

Halloween

The jury is still out on this one but for me, the trailer definitely impressed even if i’m still fuming that Halloween 6 is no longer canon.

Produced by rising horror studio, Blumhouse, Halloween looks to be a nostalgic trip and continuation of the story. So far it looks brutal and eerie and my god does Jamie Lee Curtis still look like a badass at 59. Oh, and John Fucking Carpenter is doing the score.

Mandy

Above you’ll see the greatest trailer of all time starring one of the brightest stars of all time with the same visionary director of the criminally underrated and underseen, Beyond the Black Rainbow.

We are ready to see Nic Cage hunt CRAZY EVIL!!!!!111111

First Man

Just give this film all the Oscars. Whoplash and La La Land Director is teaming up with Ryan Gosling for a biopic of the first man to walk on the moon. The trailer looks intense and beautiful and we can expect wonderful performances from a strong cast. Also, that cinematography looks amazing.

Creed 2

Creed was a film that was far better than it had any right to be, but once in the hands of Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B Jordan both brought something fresh and familar to the legendary Rocky franchise.

In all honesty I cannot believe we are getting a film directly linked to Rocky 4. My mind is still blown and I cannot wait to see Drago on screen again.
